Lexus LF-A takes the L

The Lexus LF-A racing prototype didn’t have the best of luck at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. During the night-time qualifying session it took a serious crash, that damaged the rear quarter panel, followed by some technical issues on race day. No photos of the damage yet.

Dixon takes the Indy 500

New Zealand’s Scott Dixon led the field at this year’s 92nd Indianapolis 500 going into turn 1 of Lap 1 and, and took the win after surviving 200 laps of open wheel mayhem at the Brickyard.

Shelby GT500KR

1,000 Special Edition GT500′s are scheduled to be released this year with an MSRP of $79,995. A Ford dealership, Lone Star Ford, has put up a presale of one of their ordered GT500KR’s with an auction starting at $155k on eBay. Close to double the MSRP and pretty much the MSRP of the Ford GT. Which would you rather have?

Audi R8 x Nürburgring 24-Hour race

Next week is this year’s Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race and this lightweight custom-built Audi R8 will be pushing it to the limits. The race-spec motor’s displacement drops to 4.0 liters but it delivers 530 horsepower and 353 lb-ft of torque.The entire package weighs in at just 2,755 pounds. German magazine Sport-Auto has been covering the car’s development. We wish the car and the driver the best of luck!

End of Champ Car World Series

*Late post* Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach marks end of Champ Car World Series (The Champ Car World Series has formally filed for bankruptcy with several of its teams folding into the IndyCar Series). Although the race in Long Beach came after the merger with the Indy Racing League and after the kickoff of the inaugural joint season, pre-existing commitments sent the Champ Car teams to California (sponsored by Toyota). Australian driver Will Power (seriously, that’s his name) dominated the race virtually from start to finish, leading 81 out of the 83 laps.

Danica Patrick wins Indy Japan 300

*Late post* Congratulations Danica Patrick! The third race of the IRL season and last event before the on set of the merger was history in the making. Twin Ring Motegi will now forever be the site where the first female driver won an Indy Car event. Danica Patrick sealed the deal after passing Helio Castroneves with 2 laps to go in the 200 lap race.
